Empowering Students Through Consumer Awareness

A Block-Level Consumer Awareness Workshop was successfully conducted at the college premises with the objective of educating students and the public about consumer rights and responsibilities. The program was organized in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Welfare, Government of Odisha, with support from “May I Help You” NGO and VARRASA. Eminent speakers and resource persons addressed the gathering, highlighting key aspects such as consumer protection laws, fair trade practices, and grievance redressal mechanisms.

What made the session impactful was the interactive approach of the speakers. They didn’t just talk about laws—they connected them to real-life situations students face daily. This made the learning experience both relatable and memorable.

Students and faculty members actively participated, asked questions, and shared their experiences, turning the workshop into a lively exchange of ideas. The session reinforced how important it is for young individuals to be informed consumers in today’s fast-changing market. Events like these not only educate but also inspire responsibility. The workshop ended on a positive note, leaving participants better equipped to make informed decisions and spread awareness in their communities.

Our college proudly participated in the District-Level Youth Red Cross (YRC) Camp held at D.K. College, Jaleswar, from 28th November to 30th November. The three-day camp brought together enthusiastic youth volunteers from various institutions to learn, serve, and grow through meaningful and socially impactful activities.

A team of four dedicated student participants, accompanied by our college YRC Counselors  Miss Champabati Kisku (Lecturer in Sanskrit) and Miss Mayabati Mallik (Lecturer in Political Science)  represented our college and actively took part in all training sessions and programmes.

      We are proud to share that one of our students, Kajal Mahalik (+2 1st Year), secured the 3rd Position in the Painting Competition held during the camp. Her creativity and talent brought glory to our college and added to the spirit of achievement.

The camp focused on several important areas of youth development and social responsibility, including:

🔹 First Aid Training – Hands-on training on emergency response, basic life-saving techniques, and crisis management.
🔹 Historical Background of YRC – Insightful sessions on the origin, principles, and humanitarian values of the Youth Red Cross movement.
🔹 Stress-Free Living & Mental Health Awareness – Workshops promoting emotional well-being, mindfulness, and stress management.
🔹 Climate Change & Environmental Protection – Awareness activities emphasizing sustainability, eco-friendly practices, and environmental conservation.
🔹 Mass Rally & Cleaning Programme – Active participation in a community awareness rally followed by a cleanliness drive promoting hygiene and environmental responsibility.

The camp served as a valuable platform for our students to develop leadership qualities, compassion, discipline, and a strong sense of community service. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our YRC Counselors and participating students for their dedication and enthusiastic representation of the college.

Our college remains committed to encouraging youth engagement in humanitarian and community-oriented activities through the Youth Red Cross.

          

                                                          Balasore Mahila College observed a Vigilance Awareness Programme on 1st November 2025 to mark the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week (27th October – 2nd November). The event aimed at promoting integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct among  students and staff.  The programme commenced with an oath-taking ceremony, where all teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and more than 150 students solemnly pledged not to indulge in any corrupt practices and to uphold honesty in every sphere of life.

The event was efficiently coordinated by the NSS Wing and YRC Wing of the college. Dr. Pujarani Parida, NSS Programme Officer, successfully hosted and supervised the entire programme, ensuring its smooth execution. The Principal, Dr. Umakant Nayak, addressed the gathering with an inspiring and insightful speech, emphasizing the importance of vigil

ance and moral integrity in building a corruption-free society. His words motivated the students to cultivate a strong value system.

The programme also featured heart-warming and thought-provoking speeches by Mr. Chittaranjan Santara, Lecturer in English, and Mr. Sushant Kumar Mandal, Lecturer in Economics both of whom highlighted the need for collective responsibility in eradicating corruption. Miss Rashmirekha Samantaray administered the oath to the students with dignity and composure, ensuring that every participant solemnly affirmed their commitment to honesty, integrity, and responsible conduct.

At the end, Miss Champabati Kisku, YRC Coordinator, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, and student volunteers for their active participation and support.

The active involvement of all departments, combined with the enthusiasm of the students, made the programme a meaningful and successful initiative towards spreading awareness about vigilance and integrity.

A one-day Career Counselling Seminar was successfully organized today at Balasore Mahila College by the IQAC and Career Counselling Cell of the college, in collaboration with Brainware University, Kolkata. The seminar was conducted in two separate sessions—the first for +3 students and the second for +2 2nd year students.

The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of *more than 250 students and staff members. T

he seminar was held under the chairmanship of Principal Dr. Umakanta Nayak, and was coordinated by Mr. Sushanta Kumar Mandal, Lecturer in Economics.

From Brainware University, experts Mr. Paul, Mr. Ghosh, Mr. Panda, along with their team, shared valuable insights on career opportunities, higher education options, and skill development pathways. Their engaging sessions helped students understand various career prospects in today’s competitive world.

Faculty members of the college also extended their full support, contributing to the smooth and effective conduct of the seminar. Many students expressed that the seminar was highly informative and motivating, helping them gain clarity on their future plans.

Principal Dr. Nayak appreciated the collaborative effort and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in guiding students towards a successful career. He expressed hope that more such programs would be organized in the future for the benefit of students.
